Meet the Coaches

Nick (Nicholas Panebianco), RRCA Certified Running Coach since 2000

  • Nick is a certified Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) coach and President of the Marathon Charity Cooperation.
  • He has been a children's advocate and mentor since 1993 and has been training runners to run the Marine Corps Marathon since 1998.
  • Nick is a staunch supporter of children’s charities and marathon running.
  • Nick has completed 55 marathons and 20 ultra-marathons.
  • His marathon PR (3:16) allowed him to qualify and run the 2003 Boston Marathon.
  • He has run the JFK 50 six times, the Bull Run 50 once, and he has finished eleven birthday ultras (running his age in miles).

Kirk (Kirk Campbell), MCC Member since 2004

  • Kirk has run with MCC since 2004 and founded Iqraa in 2008.
  • He has completed 8 marathons, 1 half-ironman and an ultra, as well as coordinated the Asha and Iqraa running programs.
  • Kirk likes that the MCC program helps runners combine striving toward personal goals with helping others, especially in the field of education.

Alvin (Alvin Gunkel), RRCA Certified Running Coach

  • Alvin is a certified Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Running Coach and a Director of the Marathon Charity Cooperation.
  • He was a recreational runner prior to joining the program in 2007 as a charity runner, and joined the coaching staff in 2009.
  • Alvin has completed 28 marathons and 5 ultra-marathons.
  • Alvin directed MCC's (then Marathon Charity Partners) Winter Training Program for two years.

Vandana  (Vandana Narang), RRCA Certified Running Coach

  • Vandana Narang has been running with MCC since 2008 during which she has run 2 Marine Corps marathons and 4 Baltimore Half Marathons.
  • She is a RRCA certified coach who leads the half marathon, 10 miler and 10k/5k group in MCC training. She joined the coaching staff in 2011 and has assisted with the Walk to Run as well as Summer Training Program.
  • She is a Director of the Marathon Charity Cooperation and coordinating Summer Training Program since 2014.
  • Vandana enjoys the camaraderie of the runners, assisting new runners in achieving their running goals and having fun in the outdoors.

Subhash  (Subhash Goel), RRCA Certified Running Coach

  • Subhash is a certified Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) runner coach and Vice President of the Marathon Charity Cooperation.
  • He is a certified Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) Race Director and has been directing Revenge of The Penguins Race since 2012.
  • He has been running with MCC since 2009 during which he has completed Marine Corps marathon and 10 Half Marathons.
  • He joined the coaching staff in 2011 and has assisted Summer Training Program.
  • He enjoys helping new runners in achieving their running goals and having fun in meeting wonderful group of people while enjoying outdoor activities.

Sid  (Sid Agarwal), RRCA Certified Running Coach

  • Sid is a certified Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) running coach and has been running with MCC since 2008. He joined the coaching staff in 2013.
  • has completed 3 Marine Corps marathon and 5 Half Marathons.
  • Sid takes joy in helping MCC; the organization which helped him in completing his first marathon in 2008.

Jay (Jay Jacob Wind), RRCA-certified coach, USATF Level 1-certified running coach

  • Jay Jacob Wind has been coaching since 1987.
  • He is a USATF Level 1-certified coach and an RRCA-certified coach.
  • As of April 2016, he has finished 175 marathons, with a lifetime best of 2:27:25 at Boston 1980 and a recent best of 3:18:00 at Houston 2011 at age 62, good for second place in his age group.
  • He has directed hundreds of local races, including many for Marathon Charity Cooperation. He serves on MCC’s Board of Directors as secretary.
  • Jay was elected Arlington Sportsman of the Year in 2003 and inducted into Arlington Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
  • He has won DC Road Runner's Club Most Improved Runner and Outstanding Masters Runner Awards and Potomac Valley Track Club President's Award.
